Let’s First understand Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow is a condition where the outer part of the elbow becomes painful and tender, usually as a result of a specific strain or overuse. Although it is called “tennis elbow”, it should be noted that it is not restricted to tennis players.
If one hyper extends an elbow in any sport, this may be classified as tennis elbow. Anyone who does a lot of work involving lifting at the elbow or repetitive movements at the wrist is susceptible to tennis elbow. The medical term is lateral epicondylitis.
Causes
Contrary to what the name suggests, you do not have to play tennis to develop this condition.
- It typically develops in association with sports involving repeated wrist extension against resistance like, tennis, squash, badminton.
- It can also develop with manual like, carpentry, painting, chopping wood, brick laying.
- athletes and people who participate in leisure or work activities that require repetitive arm, elbow and wrist movement.
- playing active video games, such as the Wii, PlayStation and Xbox.
Symptoms
Symptoms of tennis elbow include:
- Pain slowly increasing around the outside of the elbow. Less often, pain may develop suddenly.
